30 for 30 equals 30

Today marks the day I will make myself make art. I know that sounds weird, but sometimes in the hustle and bustle of life I forget to do what I love to do. So, my super awesome collaborator, Lisa, and I came up with 30 for 30 equals 30. To coincide with our community art event Art Break Day, (that happens every first Friday in September) we will take 30 minutes to make art every day during the month of September. As my wonderful Dad would say, this exercise isn’t about the final product, “it’s all about the journey.” For me, it’s about making space for my creative brain. Taking the time to mess around in the studio or finally work out that new art project plan. I promise you that you won’t see any masterpieces this month, but you may see some in the making. So, watch out!

Here’s the first of thirty.

I’ve had “scan various items to see what happens” on my list for a while, so I thought today was the perfect day to jump in. I grabbed some random headbands and scanned them in a whole bunch of different ways. Here’s a peek at one of the final compositions.

a composition of patterns - plaid and polka dots mostly in black and white

Patterns are fun, aren’t they?

More to come tomorrow!
